General Information

Walking

The Long Mynd is a very attractive area quite different from the Cotswolds. If you can manage Cotswold walks I think you should have no difficulty with most of this year’s ones. Where there is a stretch that some people might prefer to avoid, there is an easier alternative. The first and last walks are easily shortened if it is raining.

Obviously the main purpose of the weekend is walking, but if you don’t feel up to walking any day you are free to drop out. Please let me know, though, so that we don’t waste time looking for you.

Equipment

Walking boots or shoes are essential, as some stretches are rough and possibly muddy. If you usually walk with a pole, do bring it. Be sure to bring waterproof clothing; I intend to carry an umbrella.

Travel Costs

If you are not a driver, please be prepared to pay your share of your driver’s costs. Apart from petrol, there may be a small amount for parking.

Other Costs

The afternoons of Saturday and Sunday are free, and you will probably want to visit some of the area’s attractions. Obviously, you will have to pay your own entry fees. If you are a member of National Trust or English Heritage, bring your card and your car sticker. You might also find your bus pass useful.
