The Walk

The walk this morning starts from the front door of the Long Mynd Hotel. You should vacate your rooms and pay your bar bills before setting out. Everyone should be ready to walk by 0930.

The walk is based on the easiest HF walk, but it turned out to include some scrambling, so I have missed out part of it. We leave the grounds of the hotel and cross the road to enter a park where we turn left. The first stretch is quite a climb, but after that most of the walk is easier. We pass through woodland, and come out at a small reservoir. Here I have added an optional detour up the Townbrook Valley. We then continue to the Carding Mill Valley, the most popular tourist spot in the area. We turn left to reach another reservoir, and although it involves a short sharp climb, I hope you will appreciate the views.

The next stretch is not difficult, but as on part of it there is steep drop off the path it is probably best avoided by vertigo sufferers, who can go back the way we came. At the point at which we turn to go back down the valley, the HF walk went up the left hand fork to the Lightspout Waterfall, and those who are happy with a little scrambling might like to do this. We then come down the full length of the valley (passing the café) and enter Church Stretton. Opposite the church, we enter the park and have another climb back to the hotel. Click for a map of the walk.

Lunch

At the end of this walk you are free to do what you like. HF do not provide a packed lunch on the last day, but you should have no difficulty in finding a café or pub in Church Stretton, or on your way home.
