Barbara Edward’s BILLINGTON Ancestors

Joseph Henry BILLINGTON

He spent all of his early life at Liverpool, where he attended the Bluecoat School. He was then a mechanic with Pooleys, manufacturers of weighing machines. After some time in Liverpool he was sent to Dublin where he met and married Eva McCAMLEY. Subsequently they settled in Kidsgrove, Staffordshire.

According to family legend, he was the “white sheep” of his family, and was extremely religious. His father is said to have been a publican and to have died after a fall down the cellar stairs. In fact, his grandfather was a licensed victualler.

Anthony BILLINGTON

In at least part of his childhood he lived in Preston, but eventually he settled in Liverpool. He is known to have been a draper, but his death certificate described him as a bookkeeper.

Thomas BILLINGTON

He is known to have been an innkeeper in Preston.
