Friday Plan

Departure

As we are not driving anywhere before the walk, we have a more relaxed schedule today. We will allow time for settling bills and packing cars.

The Walk

We should be walking by 0945. Today’s walk is about 4 miles with no demanding gradients. We start by following the Yar valley for a short distance, then make our way to the interesting Golden Hill Fort. If I feel that our walking speed is too slow I will reluctantly omit the circuit of the fort. The rest of the walk is through varied scenery, including wooded stretches and views over the Solent. Shortly before our return to Norton Grange we pass Fort Victoria. Click for a map and for a risk assessment of the walk.

Distance and Time Estimates

Full walk 6.4km 4m (2:00 to 2:40)
 Omitting Golden Hill Fort 5.9km 3.7m (1:50 to 2:25)

Lunch

The easiest place for lunch is Norton Grange itself, but there are pubs in Yarmouth if you prefer.

Return

We are (at present) booked on the 1505 ferry out of Yarmouth, so should be at the terminal by 1435. Be aware that there is a swing bridge over the Yar, so you may be delayed. We should be back on the mainland by about 1535, and home around 1830.
